Pototo Cuba

Hello, my name is Pototo, the former Cuba Junky “Man in Havana”
I have just started this website to continue with the job that I have been doing for the last 9 years. The main purpose of the website is to assist with your trip to Cuba.

We specialize in booking ‘casas particulares’ (accommodation in private houses) all around Cuba, City tours in Havana, overnight tours from Varadero to Havana and much more!

Just email us with your query and we will do our best from this side of the world. The way we work is totally personal and the recommendations we make will be tailor-made to suit your requirements. You will always receive a personal reply to you enquiry not an automatic response.

If you require accommodation in a casa particular we will arrange everything directly with the owner on your behalf. Our bookings are 99% successful but in the unlikely event there is a problem our commitment is to find you another casa in the same neighbourhood with similar standards, plus a 10% discount on the original price! That is our promise!

Most of the casas particulares we work with have the following basic standards; Air Conditioner, private bathroom with hot water, double or twin beds and minibar.

The average price for our casas is 30 CUC per room per night in Havana and Varadero and 25 CUC in other cities. Note the prices are per room and not per person and just include the accommodation, you can order Breakfast in the house and sometimes Dinner as well. Prices for Breakfast vary from 3 to 5 CUC per person depending on the location and what they serve. Prices for Dinner start at around 8 CUC per person.

All payments will be made directly to each casa on arrival, and as we said earlier casa owners will hold the room for you in the same way we trust that you will show up at the booked casa.

Besides the services we offer if you have any questions about Cuba or your trip just ask, it will be my pleasure to help you in any way that I can.

Amongst other very good friends I wish to thank Rob O’Neil for some of the pictures used on this site and to Randy for his help with the server.

    Hi Pototo,
I have stumbled upon your website and am hoping you can help me with some advice with casas in particular and perhaps some trips in Havana in beyond. I will arrive in Havana on Nov 8th and would like to spend a few days ( maybe 3 or more ) there before heading to Vinales and beyond. I have a total of 24 days in Cuba and will be travelling solo. I would appreciate any advice on booking a Casa for my first few nights and ideas for Havana and the few days after. I would love to hear of any festivals that are on during my time there. Anyway, I hope that makes sense and look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards,
    Dave Mitchell

Cycling to Las Tumbas, and wondering about Casas in Playa Mulata(La Palma), Guane and Sandino. Do you have any info on these towns ?
    Thanks

Good Afternoon-I would like to see if you could recommend a casa in Havana Vieja for 2 adults and 2 children ages 9 and 11. Do any have swimming pools? This would be for 3 nights, Nov. 20-23, 2012.

Also, would you know how to purchase a flight, which airline to book through, for a flight from Havana to Cancun. This is the only leg of the journey left to book.
    Many thanks-Nicole

Pototo, I have used your services for years and you have been very helpful in all ways. We are always helpful with the casas you find for us. We have met you on occasion and you are full of knowledge about life in Cuba. It is very enlightening.
To everyone I recommend asking for private salsa dance lessons and going to a club with your instructors. It is so much fun!
Also, if you want an English speaking guide Pototo can find our favorite gal Yariley. Her English is perfect and she is a doll.

My husband and I will be travelling to Cuba in December with our 17 year old son. We have booked an all-inclusive in Varadero Dec 16-29. We would like to spend 3 nights in a casa in Havana (old town?) somewhere around the 20th, and would like your recommendation. Also, what would you suggest is the best way to travel between Varadero and Havana, and should we hire a guide, or explore on our own? This will be our second trip to Cuba, but unfortunately, we do not speak spanish. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jo, Victoria British Columbia

  • TY:

ARE CASA RENTALS PER CASA OR PER PERSON?

  • Jerry Exner:

We arrive in Varadero Feb 2nd and are looking at spending 3 nights in Havana (Feb 4-6). The casa would be close to sites, walking distance, with a privet balcony/terrace, king size bed, common terrace/roof top for breakfast, breakfast with yogurt, in a quite area. I hope I am not asking to much. If you could suggest 2 or 3 to choose from that would be appreciated.

  • Porsia and Chris:

Just returned from Cuba and wanted to say a BIG thank you to Pototo for an INCREDIBLE day in Havana. I would reccomend using Pototo to anyone travelling to Havana. He took my husband and I on a walking tour and it was the best day of our entire vacation. He is an amazing man and we instantly felt comfortable with him, like we had known him for years. He will make your stay whatever you want it to be. Do not hesitate to book him. We hope to visit you again someday Pototo!

  • Hi there…

We have a flight booked to Havana on December 26th and are leaving Cuba on January 4th. We would like to spend the night in Havana on the 26th and then travel to find a nice beach from 12/27 – 12/30, returning to Havana on the 30th for New Years. Do you have any suggestions for a nice casa in Havana? How about where to go for a nice beach area in that time frame? My first choice was Cayo Coco, but I don’t think we will have enough time to make the trip and get back to Havana.

  • Elena Jankova:

    Hi Pototo,

I and my husband are planning 7 nights stay in a resort in Varadero in January, but we would love to spend one night in Havana, near old part of the city, in a casa, and get more time to explore the city. How much would that cost and what are we getting for that price.
What would you suggest is the best way to travel between Varadero and Havana, and should we hire a guide, or explore on our own?
What is the best way to get around the city if we are exploring on our own?
What is the exchange rate for Canadian Dollar?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you

  • Ruth:

Hi Pototo. We are travelling to Cuba on Dec 30th and are thinking of travelling to Havana the morning of Friday Jan 4th and heading back to the resort the next day in the afternoon. We are 2 adults and two teenager boys (14&16). We have been to Cuba when the boys were young but we really want to expose them to the culture.

We were thinking about booking a hotel but now we think we would rather a bed and breakfast with a another family who will interact with us. We want the boys to get a taste of Cuban culture.

I am a jazz singer (musician) from Canada and an added bonus would be if you could recommend something musical we could see while we are there.

I’m hoping you can help us. We are really looking forward to our trip back.

    Thanks,
    Ruth Blais
